Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Today I am here with Rodrigo Artilheiro.  Rodrigo is probably one of the most knowledgeable guys that I have ever met, he is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu, world class wrestler, he is a Judo black belt, he is a krav maga instructor, this guy has knowledge about everything.  Rodrigo was a Brazilian National Champion in wrestling, a Brazilian National Champion in Judo, he won the worlds master black belt in Jiu Jitsu and competed in ADCC.  The list goes on and on.  Rodrigo and I were talking and he showed me this really cool technique on how to takeout the whizzer when you are playing half guard.  I play half guard a lot and every time I teach the half guard people always ask me how to take out the whizzer.  Check out the video below and then I will break it down.

Breakdown of How To Beat The Whizzer by Rodrigo Artilheiro:

Guys this is a really good technique, when I used to teach at Marcelo’s as I said in the video, the guy that I used to learn wrestling from used to do this to me all the time and showed me this technique too.  This guy was one of the top 5 USA wrestlers in history.
Guys Rodrigo showed some very good details on this simple technique.  First off, the way that he plays his half guard is great, he pushes me with knee when I try to close the distance and he pulls me in with the collar when I try to back up.
When he comes up to the dog fight position, he does not just try to kill the whizzer right away, instead, Rodrigo pretends that he is going to sweep me and when I base, he pulls his hand out to kill the whizzer.
This is a very important detail because if he just tried to pull his arm out, I may be more focused on this whizzer  screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pm so instead he fakes the sweep and gets the whizzer out, very good technique.  Anyways guys, try this out and see how it works.  Also, if you have not already don’t forget to download my free E-Book! I think this will really help you guys to improve a lot! Check out my DVD below on the half guard and see some ways that I deal with the whizzer.
