Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Today I am here with Josh Stockman, he is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu and he is also a black belt in yoga.  He has a yoga studio and bjj academy in Phoenix, Arizona.  It is really cool that he combines both of his passions and he has seen great results with his yoga on helping him prevent injury and treat injury.  Yoga also helps him with his balance, flexibility and strength.  Josh has been doing yoga for 12 years and Jiu Jitsu for 12 years.  Josh was telling me how yoga helps a lot with injuries because many of the ones in bjj are caused by your body being misaligned.  He told me that yoga aligns your body and help increase flow of blood to injured parts.  Check out my video with him below where he shows me some cool yoga positions and look out for a special guest.

Breakdown of Yoga For BJJ by Josh Stockman:

So guys I can’t really break much down for you because I am not a yoga expert, but what I can say from working with Josh just a little bit is that yoga is very hard and I can see where it will help with many aspects of Jiu Jitsu.
Yoga is good for balance, and flexibility.  Both of these things are so important for bjj.  If you are flexible it becomes so much easier to play guard and so much harder for someone to pass.  Many of us see someone flexible and we immediately say “I could never do that.”  Josh started Yoga when he was already over 30 years old and now he is the most Flexible he has ever been at 43 years old.
Just like with Jiu Jitsu it is never to late to start doing something new and incorporate this intoscreen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pm     your training.  Anyways guys, I hope you liked this, I know its different but maybe it will help someone with injury! Don’t forget to download my free E-book if you have not already! Oss!
