Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Guys today I am here with some one I have a lot of respect for, a living legend, a black belt world champion and founder of Alliance, Alexandre “Gigi” Paiva.  Alexandre is one of the guys I have always looked up to and he is one of the best teachers there is.  Many people want to train under him and he is one of the head coaches and founders of Alliance.  I competed for Alliance all through black belt when I was training with Fabio Gurgel and still represent them today.  He is going to show us some sit up sweep below and then I will do some breakdown.

Breakdown of Lapel Sweep From Sit Up Guard by Alexandre “Gigi” Paiva:

So guys this is a very good sweep from the De La Riva or the open guard and the way that he is setting it up is very high level.  Something that is very important at the highest levels is to create a reaction and that is exactly what he does here.
He makes me think he is going to go over head or something and when this happens I put all my weight back andscreen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pm    it is very easy for him to come up and get the lapel.  Once he is able to get this grip the sweep is just there.  He just need to turn on the knee and sweep.
I don’t even think that he needs the other lapel but if you get it then you will definitely be able to sweep.  Just the first grip is already so tight. Anyways guys I hope you enjoyed this position and try it out!
