Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Today I am here with Brandon McCaghren.  Brandon is a 10th planet black belt and he is one of Eddie Bravo’s first black belts.  He is Actually Eddie’s first black belt in the south east.  Guys I have always been a fan of Eddie Bravo, he is a super nice guy and has amazing Jiu Jitsu.  Eddie has done a lot for the sport.  I remember when I was younger I would watch some of his videos on the rubber guard, the twister, and all of his famous techniques.  Brandon is really good on the rubber guard and today he is going to show us one of his favorite submissions.  It is a Gogoplata from the rubber guard.  The video is below and then I will do a breakdown.

Breakdown of Gogoplata from Rubber Guard by Eddie Bravo’s Black Belt Brandon McCaghren:

So guys, as you can see above there are so many details to this position.  Brandon really impressed with me with how much detail he puts in and how well he is able to break down this technique so anyone can understand it.  One of the first things he does in the video is the most important.
Brandon will break my posture and create an angle, then he will grab his own knee as he over hooks my arm to establish a very very deep and tight rubber guard.  This is so important.  Pay attention to what he said about hugging his knee.
Another thing that Brandon did that I actually do a lot when I go for the omoplata is he had his palm facing him screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pm and used his elbow/forearm against my face instead of just his wrist.  This is something that is easy to forget when we are rolling because we are talking about inches but it is all the difference.
After he does that I am in really deep trouble.  He passes the foot under my neck and he starts to apply the choke.  One detail that he did not emphasize as much and it is harder to see in the video is how he used his foot to finish.  Brandon “rev’s” his foot like he said in the video.  Guys, this made the choke so tight it was crazy.  When he revved the foot it felt like he was punching my trachea with his foot.  Anyways guys I hope you like this position and are able to apply it.  Osssss!
