Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Guys today I am here with a good friend of mine and student who trains with me here at my academy in Bedford, MA, Kyle Briere.  Kyle is a black belt and I have known him since 2007.  He is a very high level black belt who has had success at a lot of competitions and he is always improving.  Kyle is also one of the nicest guys I have ever met and it is a huge pleasure to have him at my school.  Today he is going to show us one of the most basic chokes from the closed guard because he does it very well, so let’s see below and then I will do some breakdown.

Breakdown of Cross Collar Choke From Closed Guard by Kyle Briere:

so guys as you can see above this is one of the most simple chokes and one of the first positions that a lot of us will learn.  It is a cross choke from the closed guard.  Many people think that this choke is very basic but it is used at the highest levels of competition all the time and it is difficult to master.
Kyle is very good at doing this position.  Pay attention to the details he talks about with keeping his forearm stiff  screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pm and against the neck.  This is very important.  The other thing that Kyle does very well here is keep my posture broken, create an angle and then he is able to get a very deep grip.
The next thing he does well is the way he has his second grip and the way he finishes by sitting up.  This choke is very good to know because you can use it from everywhere, top, bottom and all the time.  I hope you guys enjoyed this position, OSSSS!
