Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Today I am here with a good friend of mine and somebody who I used to look up to as I was coming up through the ranks, my friend, Eduardo Telles.   Telles was somebody that I wanted to train with years ago when I lived in Brazil, he had the best school there.  Eduardo is known as the  “turtle master.”  When I was younger people did not want to fight against him because he had such a weird game.  His favorite position is the turtle position and when people would fight him they did not know what to do.  He would just turtle and they were lost.  He was doing sweeps, submissions like the kimura and the knee bar and so many other things from the turtle.  He was always a very innovative person.  Anyways guys let’s see one of his favorite attacks from here below and then I will do some breakdown.

Breakdown of Butterfly Trap: Kimura From “Turtle Guard” by Eduardo Telles:

So guys as you can see above, like a lot of the things that Eduardo does, this position is very different.  Basically Eduardo is going to bait his opponent to do some under hook or try and attack his back.  He is going to focus 100% of his energy on little details.
It is important to know that in this position he is focusing all of his energy on his hook and not letting his screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pm opponent connect their arms.  Telles knows that they are going to try and connect the hands and he is not going to let them do that.
By doing this he is going to fall for a Kimura and trap their leg in a half guard so that they cannot roll or get out.  He even does the kimura different he grabs his own lapel and then uses his other hand to finish.  Very cool way to do this position.  Telles is also going to kimura the arm on the same side of the leg that he is trapping in half guard.
Normally from the half guard people will go after the arm opposite of the leg that is trapped.  anyways guys I hope you enjoyed this position, OSS!
