Today I am here sharing an older video that I made with one of my good friends, Marcos Tinoco.  Marcos is one of Marcelo Garcia’s black belt who I used to train with when I was training in NYC.  Marcos got second place at the black belt World Championships and he has won the Europeans as a black belt.  Marcos is one of the nicest guys I have had the pleasure of training with and he is also amazing at Jiu Jitsu. Today I am going to share a technique that Marcos did years ago at the worlds as a brown belt.  It was a Cartwheel arm bar and it was the best submission of 2014 worlds.  Let’s take a look below and then I will break it down.

Breakdown of the Arm Bar from Cartwheel by Marcos Tinoco:

So guys as you can see above, Marcos is able to get to this pass we call the cartwheel pass. Marcos is going to control my sleeves and then he is going to do the pass from the butterfly guard.  One thing that is very important about this pass is that Marcos is thinking about doing the arm bar as soon as he achieves the sleeve grips.
The sleeve grips are very important because this is what Marcos is going to use to get the arm bar in the end.  If screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pmhe does this pass with other grips it is not going to work. Marcos will start the pass with the cartwheel and immediately attack the near side arm bar.
One thing that is important to note is that Marcos is thinking about the submission before he even does the pass.  You have to look at this move as one move, call it a “near side arm bar set up” not a cartwheel pass.  This is because Marcos knows the reaction his opponent will give when he starts the pass and he anticipated it and got the submission.  Anyways guys I hope you like this move and try it out, OSSSSS!
