Guys today I am here with Renato Canuto. Renato is one of the most exciting new black belt competitors. He placed second at the IBJJf world losing only to Lucas Lepri. They had a very exciting match and the future looks bright for Renato. Renato also competed at Kasai and he got one of the biggest highlight reels when he was able to pass the guard of his opponent with a back flip. It was awesome. We just finished filming one instructional video series where he showed a bunch of arm bars. Today I asked him to show me one of this favorite arm bars from the single leg half. Check the video out below and I will do some breakdown.
Breakdown of Unexpected Arm Bar From Single Leg Half Guard by Renato Canuto:
So guys as you can see the arm bar might look fancy but there is a lot of technique here. Who would have thought that there was even an arm bar from this position. Renato has so many arm bar set ups.
One thing that is very important is that he knows the timing really well. He is going to let me get up and make   the grip behind my neck and when he does this he is keeping the distance and setting up his arm bar.
When he controls my sleeve he is very tight and he is going to pull my arm through at the right time and he will jump over for the arm bar. Anyways guys, I hope you like this position and try it out, oss!
