Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Today I am going to share a video I made when I was training at Marcelo’s in NYC.  This is one of my favorite positions in the world and it is something that I have done my entire career.  I call this position the “Last Chance” sweep from the half guard.  What I mean by this is that this is not a sweep I would choose to do immediately but it is something that I will go for when I do not have many options and it works really well.  Let’s see the video below and then I will do some breakdown.

Breakdown of The “Last Chance” Sweep:

So as you can see I am initiating this position from a deep knee cut when my opponent is  very close to passing my guard.  I’m doing it from the quarter guard.  normally I would like to play the Z guard or the deep half but sometimes it is difficult.
Many of you that like the half guard are going to want to have some sweeps from the quarter guard because screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pm sometimes it is very hard to stop those young and athletic guys from getting there.  This is a great option for them.  When they commit to the knee cut I will grab the pant leg on the leg that is trapped.
The most important detail is going to be to get the pant grip and bump them on the butt.  What you will notice is that from the quarter guard position you can use your knee to hit them very easily.  When you hit them you have one chance to use the momentum to turn on the knee and come up.  It is very important to have the pant grip.   With out this sometimes they can pass to a sprawl.  Anyways guys I hope you like this position and try it! Oss!
