Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Today I am here with Brian James, he owns the YouTube channel “Jiu Jitsu Cop.”  His page is really cool and really informative, check it out.  His channel is dedicated to helping cops with Jiu Jitsu and Grappling.  Today we are here at Alliance nearby Atlanta and I asked him to show us something that would help police.  He is going to show us how he uses the kimura grip to defend himself when someone is trying to get to his gun or something.  Jiu Jitsu is much different for police because it is used to save their lives against people who may have weapons and stuff.  Let’s look at the video below and then we will break it down.

Breakdown of Kimura for Cops by Brian “The Jiu Jitsu Cop”:

So guys, this position is really cool because it is simple and it is effective.  This is a different type of bjj, manyy of us who train don’t have a gun on our waist and we don’t have to worry about something like this happening.  This is a great move because when you have a criminal come up behind you and try to get your gun, there is an opportunity for you to grab their wrist and make this kimura grip.
There are other things that Brian could do if he did not have the firearm on him, but in this case, if the criminal isscreen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pm able to get his gun, it could cost him his life.  This is why the attack is so good.  Going for this kimura grip will allow you to put 100% of your energy on the problem at hand which is the guy getting your gun.  You can’t risk doing some fancy trip or throw in this case.
Brian does this move to make SURE that no one is going to grab his gun.  Once he is able to get the grip and make sure the arm is away from his gun he can continue to turn into his opponent and bring them to the ground.  Then since he has such good control of the wrist, another officer can come and easily cuff the criminal.
This is super cool to see how well Jiu Jitsu can be applied to a life saving situation like this.  Please support his page and him because Brian is doing a great thing for our community law enforcement.  IT is very important that there is knowledge out there for the police to train with! Anyways guys, I hope you like this and support, oss!
