Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Today I am here with Joseph Cashin.  Joseph is a black belt who is dropping in at my academy all the time.  He visits the Boston area for work frequently and when he does he come to train.  Joseph is always doing this sweep he is going to show below from the knee shield and it is very different and very effective.  I asked him to show it for us today.  The video is below and then I will do some breakdown.

Breakdown of The Kicking Sweep From Z-Guard by Joseph Cashin:

So guys as you can see above this position is very different.  As Joe mentioned it is something he learned from Black Belt World Champion, Robson Moura who used to do this position called the cross guard.  This is a good sweep to use because it works really well and you can learn easily.
So what is he doing, he is using the knee shield as a kick or hook on my body to off balance me and knock me screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pmover.  Joe is going to control my sleeve and leg on the side that he is going to sweep me so that he has both parts of my base compromised.  Once he does this he is going to use his toes and shoulder to lift his hip and leg really high and kick me over.
Listen to what he said about avoiding the foot lock because this sweep puts you in a position where your opponent may attack your foot.  Anyways guys this is an excellent position and I hope you guys enjoy this! Oss!
