Premier BJJ Training in Bedford, MA | Bernardo Faria Academy

Today I am here with Adam Wardzinski.  Adam is one of the best Jiu Jitsu guys in the world now a days.  This is very cool to see because Adam is from Europe and this to me shows how much Jiu Jitsu is growing and how fast.  For example, this year at the worlds many Europeans did very well, Americans made their mark, and we got to see a new era of bjj. Adam has beat some of the best bjj guys in the world including Erberth Santos, Isaque Bahiense, he also beat Muhamed Aly.  This last week in the world he had one of the best matches in the world against Black Belt World Champ and ADCC Absolute champion, Felipe Pena.  It was very back and forth.  Anyways guys, Adam has one of the best butterfly guards there is so I asked him to show us some techniques, check out the video below and then I will do a breakdown.

Breakdown of Butterfly Sweep Crossing The Arm by Adam Wardzinski:

So guys this is a really cool sweep from the butterfly guard and it is very effective.  There is a lot to pay attention to.  For example, one of the things Adam does is get this 2 on 1 grip.  Marcelo used to be very big about this grip.  Once he is able to establish the grip he puts the foot on the hip and drags.  When he drags I have 2 choices.  Either posture up to prevent the back take or get my back taken.
In this case, I posture up.  Something that is very important to note is not only the belt grip but how tight Adam isscreen-shot-2016-12-01-at-6-47-41-pm able to stay to me.  He is not going to be able to get this sweep if I can get my arm free.  I will be able to under hook him and start to pass.  So it is very important that he keeps my arm trapped.
Once Adam does all this and knows that my arm is now trapped, he is going to dive for an under hook on my leg.  Similar to if he was going to go to deep half or X guard.  Since Adam has all of his grips already set up he is not going to establish some new guard, he is just going to move his hip and get the sweep.  Anyways guys, this is a really cool move and I hope you liked it, osssssssssssssss.
